Guy Kawasaki (@GuyKawasaki<\/a>) is a name-brand marketing pro and evangelist. The topic he\u2019s sharing with this crowd of marketers at Pubcon Las Vegas is how to improve your marketing in the age of social media, the democratization of platforms. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

There are two salient points he\u2019s observed about hi-tech speakers: Almost all of them suck, and almost all of them go long. That\u2019s a bad combination. If you suck and you\u2019re short, it\u2019s okay, and if you\u2019re great and you\u2019re long, you\u2019re okay. How do we embrace social media today? The key to understanding social media in this age is through the metaphor of online dating.<\/p>\n

In online dating, there are two kinds of websites. eHarmony requires you to fill out psychographic surveys to find out how compatible you are and to whom. Tinder is on the other extreme; you make an immediate judgment based on the picture. Guy says that marketing is working in a Tinder world.<\/strong><\/p>\n
